Natural Skin Moisturizer- Coconut Oil

by Native
Coconut oil is a healthy alternative to skin care products and has been said to be one of the best natural moisturizers out there, not only does it moisturize the skin without the use of harmful chemicals, it’s also loaded with antioxidants to help repair skin damage and strengthen skin tissues, thereby preventing wrinkles.
Most store- bought creams and lotions are made of water which expands the tissues allowing wrinkles to fade away, however these effects are short-term and as soon as the water evaporates, the dry wrinkled skin returns. Using coconut oil can prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by allowing omega fatty acids to penetrate the pores, permanently plumping up the skin which makes it look and feel more supple.
Aging and years of sun damage causes the appearance liver spots, also known as “old age spots” which are caused by free-radical deterioration of fats in our skin. The use of coconut oil can greatly help to minimize damage caused by excessive sun exposure. In addition, coconut oil can help to remove dead skin cells, revealing younger and smoother skin.
Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which is a natural fatty acid said to have antibacterial and antiviral properties, and when taken by mouth, this fatty acid can be used to ward off skin problems such as acne. Long-term use of coconut oil as a moisturizer can relieve symptoms of common skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis and even dandruff. Additionally, coconut oil can be applied to the skin as a protector to help fight the effects of harsh weather, such as sun, cold and wind.
Coconut oil is non-toxic and is considered an effective natural remedy against dry skin conditions, and can even be used on infants- without the risk of side effects or allergic reactions. When purchasing coconut oil, look for the words “all-natural” “organic” “un-refined” or “virgin”, as these contain the most amounts of anti-oxidant properties. As with most moisturizers, it is best to apply coconut oil to your skin after a bath or shower when the pores are open. If the oil is in a solid form, soften it up before applying to your skin using a microwave or double-boiler.
