Quick Tip for Weight Loss

Obesity-related health problems are on the rise, with some health experts claiming the condition to be one of the most dangerous health problems confronting public health professionals today.
Some of the complications that can results from obesity include:
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Elevated cholesterol levels
  • Decreased blood oxygen levels
  • Decreased testosterone levels
One small but significant change in diet can help curb the over-eating that leads to obesity: portion control.
When eating at home, a trick to avoid helping yourself to seconds (or thirds) is to keep serving platters in the kitchen and fill your plate there – not on the table. A recent study showed that people had very skewed perceptions as to the amount of food they had consumed. Most subjects believed to have consumed 1 or 2 portions, but in fact had 3 or 4!
When dining out, set aside half your meal once it arrives and take it home. Most portions are actually enough for 2-3 meals.
In addition to monitoring your intake, check out your plate size and try to load up at least half the plate with veggies. Scale down your plate as well, as most dinner plates may be large enough to hold 2 or more reasonable portions.
