I have friends that have recently become new parents, while having a baby can be one of the most joyous experiences in a couple’s life, many times I have heard, “I forgot to read about what happens after the baby comes.”
One of the biggest questions I hear from new parents is, “when will my baby sleep through the night?” Newborns sleep on average about 16 hours a day, but the problem is, it is usually stretched out into 2 hour segments. When your baby reaches 6 months these chunks of time will start to come together more easily and soon he/she will be sleeping more like 6 to 9 hours at night.
A great way to help ensure your instilling good sleep patterns in your growing child is to practice doing simple things now while they are still a newborn. When waking up for nightly feedings, it is important to use a soft voice and dim lighting so as not to wake up your baby fully.
